Congratulations to our December 2018 Volunteer of the Month: Alexandra Harvey!
The aquarium’s mission of “protecting the blue planet” focuses on inspiring daily change in the behavior and thought of our visitors and the people of New England as a whole. The animals in our collection act as ambassadors and increase visibility for the natural world where otherwise the hustle and bustle of our lives might otherwise distract us. We wouldn’t be able to inspire this sort of action without the wonder instilled by seeing such vibrant, healthy, and engaging animals. The vast majority of our animals begin their career with us in our Quincy Animal Care Center, where they are held for quarantine in addition to breeding, research, and other medical considerations. With the assistance of our highly dedicated and incredibly resourceful Quincy Animal Care Center volunteers such as Alexandra Harvey we’re able to provide the best care in the world for these animals. Here’s what Alex’s supervisor Morgan had to say about her service work:
“Alexandra Harvey is an unsung hero. Alex began as a Quincy Animal Care Center intern in the fall of 2016 and has since transitioned into a volunteer role in Quincy. During her time at the aquarium Alex has developed her leadership skills and we have come to rely on her to assist in training many of her peers. We are lucky to have her excellent work ethic, husbandry skills, and attention to detail. Whether she is working with other volunteers and interns or flying solo everything gets accomplished with an unwavering positive attitude and a smile. Even after a full day’s work she is ready to tackle any extra tasks that we give her whether it is fun or just plain gross. As Barbara Bailey always says, “Alex is always on a mission, quickly going somewhere to do something.” We believe Alex is an unsung hero because she is reliable, dedicated, and selfless with her time here at the aquarium without seeking any additional recognition for her hard work.”
Congratulations again to Alexandra Harvey on her stellar service and commitment to our mission of “protecting the blue planet.”
