Congratulations to our October 2016 Volunteer of the Month: Ira Goldklang!
When people think about volunteering they almost always think of working with the animals. Whether it’s penguins or groupers, mammals or sharks, people think of these positions organically. What about those volunteer positions that are not as well known? What about the unsung volunteer roles that are just as essential to our success as caring for our animals?
Ira Goldklang has been volunteering for the New England Aquarium for many years now and received multiple nominations for this award from our colleagues on the Right Whale team. Ira is easily identified by his cheery demeanor, warm smile, and eagerness to help everyone around him. He is also quite tall. Ira’s contributions to the New England Aquarium are too numerous to count and even though he’d much prefer the warm summer weather he is here each week contributing to our mission of “protecting the blue planet.” Here are the nominations from Ira’s supervising staff:
“I would like to nominate our Right Whale Sponsorship volunteer Ira Goldklang. Without a doubt Ira has been an integral part of the Sponsorship program as well as a integral part as I transition into Right Whale Sponsorship Program. Not a day goes by that I don’t look up to Ira for guidance and support and I know he is always there, he is always reliable. I have only really worked with Ira since the spring, and I am absolutely amazed at his leadership, positive and can do perspective, insight and support. He leads the charge for RW Sponsorship, he is such an amazing team player and we are incredibly lucky to have him with us and a part of our team. Thanks all” Bess Edwards
“I would like to nominate our Right Whale Sponsorship volunteer, Ira Goldklang, for the next Volunteer of the Month award. He has been volunteering for us since 2013 and he has done a fantastic job with our sponsorship program. With his long and successful career in the advertising business he has brought his vast experience to help advance our program. We include him in all of our sponsorship meetings due to his thoughtful advice and suggestions. He quickly and efficiently completes anything we ask of him. He’s GREAT!” Marilyn K. Marx
“I would like to nominate Ira for volunteer of the month. Ira has been a HUGE asset to the right whale sponsorship program. As soon as he came on board, Ira brought enthusiasm, vast knowledge of the marketing world and an unstoppable drive to make our program the best it can be. He has helped us to completely redesign the sponsorship program and has streamlined the fulfillment process for us. He is incredibly insightful and challenges us to examine our program in new and innovative ways. We feel very lucky to have him on our team.” Heather Pettis
